Pro Reef Aquatics has a simple philosophy, to do the right thing. Do the right thing by the animals in our care and the right thing by our customers. To ensure that we are providing the highest level of quality fish to our customers, all of the fish in our retail system have gone through an extensive quarantine process. This significantly reduces the likelihood of any parasites or bacterial issues making its way into your home aquarium. This process ensures our fish have the best chance of thriving in a home aquarium environment.
Our facility's main focus when it comes to fish is quality over quantity. Our fish specialists select specific fish in small quantities to make sure we are able to adequately care for each specimen. Bringing in small batches helps by reducing the load in our systems which gives the fish ample room to swim, further reducing stress on arrival.
Our quarantine process involves 2 separate systems and an extended holding system. The first system is our receiving system and also serves as our antifungal and antibacterial system. After being acclimated for temperature, PH & salinity our fish are introduced to quarantine 1. During phase one of quarantine, fish are monitored for erratic behavior and heavy breathing. They are also a variety of medicated foods to help flush out any internal parasites if present. The fish remain in quarantine 1 for no less than 5 days. If a fish is showing signs of a potential issue they remain in that system until our staff is satisfied the issue has resolved before moving forward.
After time in the first quarantine system, fish are moved into quarantine 2. This system is our anti-parasitic system which helps fight against parasites such as Ich and Velvet. Fish are continually monitored and fed a variety of different medicated foods to keep them healthy. Fish remain in quarantine 2 for no less than 5 days.If a fish is showing signs of a potential issue they remain in that system until our staff is satisfied the issue has resolved.
Only after this process is complete are any of the fish moved into our retail system for sale.
